Jui's Swiss Trips

trip 6

Depending on time and interest, we also will visit some sightseeing spot at the Swiss shore of Lake Geneva. Lunch probably in Yvoire and dinner in Lausanne.

Region of Lake Geneva

Lake Geneva is Switzerland's and France's largest lake. Besides the many touristic attractions located in the area, it is also an important economic region in Switzer-land (from Lausanne to Geneva). Along Lake Geneva one of the largest vineyard regions of Switzerland - The Lavaux, an UN World Heritage Site - is located bet-ween Lausanne and Montreux.

Yvoire (France) (webcam / weather forecast / photo gallery)

Yvoire lays at the southern, French shore of Lake Geneva opposite of Swiss Nyon. This small medieval fourteenth century town (population about 800) is always worth a visit. The traffic free village has managed to preserve much of its medieval look with town walls and gates, a historic castle, and narrow cobblestone streets. Yvoire is a beautiful town year round but particularly attractive during spring and summer when it is filled with flowers blooming from seemingly every balcony and windowsill. Yvoire has received a national prize for its floral decoration, and is a member of the Association of the Most Beautiful Villages of France. Nestled in the heart of this charming village, an exceptional private garden, inspired by medieval labyrinths, visitors are invited to discover several intimate parts dedicated to the five senses and the treasures of the plant world.
Yvoire is hugely popular with day-trippers and thus has a large number of restaurants, cafés, boutiques, art galleries, studios, and souvenir shops. With few formal sights, visiting Yvoire is relaxing and the town easy to enjoy.
