trip 3

This trip is at present not part of our Standard Tour Programme. But it may be booked on request.

Mainau Island

Enchanted and bewitching: The Mainau Island. Luxuriant blossoms all year, a park with trees around 150 years old, the Baroque splendour of the castle, grounds and church and the Mediterranean flair, this is Mainau, the Flower Island in Lake Constance. The island has been in the hands of the Bernadotte family since 1853. The father of current owners, Lennart Count Bernadotte, was the son of Prince Wilhelm of Sweden and Maria Pavlovna, Grand Duchess of Russia. He turned the overgrown park into a paradise of flowers and plants and opened the island to the public.

Stein am Rhein

At the point where Lake Constance again becomes the Rhine River, you will find the little town of Stein am Rhein. It is famous for its well-preserved old town featuring painted facades and half-timbered houses. Stein am Rhein is a lively and very charming small town. Among the sights are the Monastery of St. Georgen, one of the best-preserved medieval monastery complexes, the Lindwurm Museum depicting 19th century bourgeois and agricultural life.

Rhine Falls

Stand high above Europe's largest waterfall and feel the roar and vibration of the water throughout your entire body - here at the Rhine Falls near Schaffhausen. By boarding a boat you can reach castles, the Rhine Falls Basin and even the mighty rock in the midst of the waterfall. The boat ride and climb up the rock are among the highlights of every visitor to the Rhine Falls. At 150 metres wide and 23 metres high, an average of 700 cubic metres of water falls over the rocks each second.

Schaffhausen

A visit to the city of Schaffhausen is like a journey through time. The city of Schaffhausen came into being at the location where trading ships had to set anchor because the Rhine Falls made it impossible to travel further. And if it weren't for modern people, shops and electric light in the narrow streets of the Old Town, one might imagine having been transported back to those times. Many of the town houses with the richly painted facades and the innumerable bay windows were built in the Renaissance period. The city's landmark, the Munot, towers high above the town. The ring-shaped fortress was built in the 16th century.
