Jui's Swiss Trips

trip 1

Bern (may be visited on arrival day, if arrival is early in the morning)

The capital of Switzerland has many charms. Its quaint old town is framed by the Aare River and offers spectacular views of the Alps. With its 6 km of limestone buildings and medieval arcades, its Renaissance fountains with colourful figures, and its beautiful cathedral surrounded by picturesque rooftops, Bern, founded in 1191, is truly a gem of medieval architecture in Europe. Thanks to its well preserved medieval townscape, the Old Town of Bern was entered onto UNESCO’s listing of World Heritage Sites in 1983.

Lake Thun

Embedded within an imposing backdrop of mountains, the deeply-blue Lake Thun lies on the northern periphery of the Alps, between the Bernese Oberland towns of Thun and Interlaken. A cruise on Lake Thun is a relaxing experience. Enjoy the glorious sunshine on deck, while your gaze will travel pass along the attractive shore with its romantic villages and majestic historic castles… right up to the peaks of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. A lake cruise is the perfect way of discovering the scenic diversity of the region around Lake Thun.

Interlaken

Interlaken lies in the Bernese Oberland on an alluvial plain, between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. Stroll through this very international vacation destination to discover its hidden beauties. The castle and church, the Casino Park, the banks of Aare River and the Jungfrau at sunset.

Spiez (stopover on the way from Interlaken to Thun, but only if time permits)

Nestled between hills and vineyards and dominated by a magnificent castle, lays the most beautiful bay of Europe: the Bay of Spiez on Lake Thun. Above the lake the Niederhorn Range stretches as far as the Bernese Alps and forms a magnificent panorama.

Thun (if Bern is visited on arrival day, this trip starts with Thun)

The city of Thun, which is located at the lower end of Lake Thun, is the gate to the Bernese Oberland. The historic Old Town is situated on the banks of Aare River, along which, numerous cafes are located. The first settlement arose on today's site of the city as early as 2'500 BC. Above the historic center of Thun the castle, constructed by the Dukes of Zähringen between 1180 and 1190, overlooks the city. The halls of the castle house a historical museum. Visit Schadau Castle, the world's oldest panoramic rotunda painting and one of Lake Thun’s 1'000-year-old churches with important old tapestries and paintings.
