Sakura Tour (Cherry Blossom Zurich, Basel County and other places)
On our Sakura Tours we will replace some sightseeing spots, by cherry blossom trips. There
will be a Sakura sightseeing in Zurich, and a whole day trip by car to cherry tree groves
in Basel's countryside. However cherry tree's blossom depends very much on nature. So we
can not guarantee being able to let you experience the full splendor of the cherry blossom
in Switzerland. Cherry trees usually bloom in early April, but they can bloom as early as
middle of and late March. It all depends on the geographical location, and most of all the
weather conditions in spring time, whether warm sunny weather sets in early or late.
As in Zurich City there are some city spots with cherry trees and Magnolia as well in some
other parts of Switzerland. Some of this spots are well worth visiting. Locations usually
are rather small like squares, courtyards, neighbourhood streets and alleys. Some of them
we will visit as well.
Zurich City
Within the city of Zurich there are some places to go to which are really very nice to see
during the period of the cherry tree blossom. A great many of the cherry trees in Zurich
can be found along neighbourhood streets or in courtyards of old buildings. Our tour guide
knows the best places and will take you there by tram, bus and on foot.
Basel's countryside
This part of Switzerland is sometimes also called the Swiss Cherry County. All the cherry
trees grown here, produce cherries for the Swiss market. Usually about 40% of all the Swiss
cherries are harvested here. The cherry orchards are the livelihood of the fruit-growing
families living here. In Switzerland, around 1,600 to 2,600 tonnes of cherries are harvested
for eating every year.
