the very well-known biker's meeting points at schallenberg (20 km / 0:25 hrs) and gurnigel (28 km / 0:35 std) are easily and quickly reachable from jui's homestay.

an extremely interesting website with lots of information is motofun.ch by hermann ryter from steffisburg. a visit to these motorcycle pages is highly recommended! hermann's webpages are in german only. tours on hermann's website include some, which start in or near our region (thun/steffisburg). steffisburg is one of the neighbouring communities of heimberg, and lays just round the corner of jui's homestay. of particular interest to our guests are the tours through the beoland, the canton of fribourg and central switzerland.

the tour through the nature park gantrisch will take you across the gurnigel pass, which is ex-tremely popular amongst bikers, and to the jewel schwarzsee (black lake). but you will also climb guggershörnli, where the famous vreneli from guggisberg comes from (old very famous swiss folk song), and return across belpberg. to begin with you drive via seftigen and wattenwil to the gurnigel [1'610m] and enjoy the panoramic view of thun with its lake and the bernese alps behind.

every tuesday evening - between the beginning of june and the end of september from around 5:30 pm - the legendary gurnigel biker's meeting takes place at the «unteren gantrischhütte» (gps: 46.71806 / 7.44017 / 1'510.4 m). on a biker's meeting tuesday, the tour could be riden in the opposite direction in order to arrive at the biker's meeting place at the right time.

after the watershed we drive now on a narrower and a bit less maintained road towards zollhaus, where we turn left to schwarzsee. arrived there, what to do now?

you may go on the about 4 km easy walk around the lake, which will take 1:15 hrs (with the short detour to the waterfall it's about 5 km and 1:25 hrs), then visiting a restaurant (hostellerie at schwarzsee, schwarzseestärn or gypsera) at gypsera to regain your strength again after that walk. or you take the chairlift to the bärghuus riggisalp for a refreshment.

after the stay at schwarzsee you take the same road back to zollhaus, and then via side streets past the guggershörnli to guggisberg. who feels like moving his feet a bit again (about 30 min one way), may take the 1 km long path with an ascent of 165 m to the lookout on guggershörnli. or you may (also) visit the vreneli museum in guggisberg (only by advance reservation).

on the main road you continue now via schwarzenburg to niederscherli and then oberscherli towards längenberg. via zimmerwald, riggisberg and toffen you head now for the belpberg, which we cross almost at the end of this tour. Anyone who is interested in historical textiles can take the short detour at riggisberg to the abegg foundation (museum open daily 2:00 pm to 5:30 pm).

the central swiss alpine foothill passes ride takes you across schallenberg pass [1'168 m] to sarnen in central switzerland. we continue across glaubenberg pass [1'543 m] to entlebuch and continue our ride across glaubenbielen pass [1,611 m] to giswil. the ride back will take you across brünig pass [1'008 m] to the world famous tourist resort interlaken. high above the left shore of lake thun you then drive back to jui's homestay via krattigen/spiez.

to start with the tour takes you partly on side roads up to the schallenberg pass. a popular biker's meeting takes place every friday from 5pm onwards at the restaurant gabelspitz. if you have a sweet tooth, then the restaurant kemmeribodenbad is recommended for you to try their famous meringue pastry (detour of 15 km from schangnau and back / time required ? 1:00 hours).

this tour is suitable throughout the whole bike season, from around end of april / beginning of may until mid-november. the two passes glaubberg and glaubbielen are closed for winter.

this tour is recommended for a first spring trip or a last autumn trip (less traffic). during summer and autumn holidays, as well as on sunny weekends, heavy excursion traffic by our four-wheeled friends is to be expected. this applies especially to the glaubbielenpass and even more to the brünig pass (here you most likely also will meet black smoke spewing giant snails).
