Stein am Rhein is a place to marvel at and pause for a moment: Discover the charming old town with its colourful old timber-framed houses. Enjoy your time in this picturesque town on a stroll along the Rhine promenade, stop in at one of the many cafes and restaurants, watch the boats passing by and look out at the surrounding hills, and treat yourself to a boat trip down the River Rhine to Schaffhausen (from beginning of May until middle of October / may not run at low water levels).
The charm of this medieval town immediately captivates visitors. Its facade paintings are world-famous, as are its culinary offerings and shopping treasures. Stein am Rhein's old town is best known for its timber-framed houses, some of which date back to the 15th or 16th century. While strolling around, you won't be able to help but admire the colourful house facades with their beautiful frescoes. The winding alleyways will take you to the market square, the old town's natural meeting place with its many shops. The Benedictine Abbey in Stein am Rhein is one of the best-preserved medieval monasteries in Switzerland.

The city of Schaffhausen was first mentioned in a document on 10 July 1045. Today, Schaffhausen is one of the best preserved towns from the Middle Ages. The interplay of medieval facades, magnificent bay windows, winding alleyways, street cafés and the River Rhine make up the special charm.
Your sightseeing in Schaffhausen begins with a stroll through the traffic-free old town impresses with its ornate bay windows. Marvel at well-preserved medieval buildings buildings - many of them decorated with facade paintings and stonemasonry - such as the Haus zum Ritter and make a stop at Herrenacker: the largest square in the old town is surrounded by restaurants and cafés, making it an ideal place to take a break. From here, visit the Museum zu Allerheiligen. Or continue to roam through the city's alleyways and take a break at one of the fountains on Fronwagplatz. One particular highlight is the Munot Fortress. The 16th-century fortress towers over the city and offers far-reaching views over Schaffhausen and the River Rhine.
