Switzerland is part of the European Schengen Area. All member states employ a common visa policy. The so called Schengen Visa is valid for all member states. For a stay as a tourist of up to 90 days in Switzerland (or any other Schengen Country) a Schengen Tourist Visa is needed, if not exempted from visa requirements. The information given below covers only the process of applying for a Schengen Tourist Visa with the main destination Switzerland for residents of Thailand. Residents of other countries who need a Schengen Tourist Visa refer to the webpage of Switzerland's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (List of Representations) for more information.

Countries of the Schengen Area are: Austria, Belgium, Chech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lichtenstein, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

All consular activities of the Swiss Embassy are handled by The Regional Consular Centre Bangkok at the Embassy of Switzerland (location map here). However, in general all applications for a Schengen Visa must be submitted personally at the external service provider VFS Global.

Applicants who do not wish to submit their application at VFS Global can submit it at the Regional Consular Center Bangkok. In both cases, an appointment is mandatory and must be booked in advance through the website VFS Global. If no appointment was made in advance, neither VFS Global nor the Regional Consular Center Bangkok will accept a visa application.

Visa service provider VFS Global. The embassy of Switzerland did outsource their visa services to an external private company, VFS Global. In general your visa application is handled by this private company. The decisision about your visa application remains entirely by the Embassy of Switzerland. Information Visa Application Procedure. Below wie provide a brief summary as an overview about the most important details in the visa application process. The information provided is to our best knowledge, but we decline any resposibility for given information. For current information please refer to the webpages of the concerned parties.

  • Do I need a visa?
    Yes, all Thai citizen need a visa to enter the Schengen Area of which Switzerland is a part of. Some exeptions apply: exempt from visa requirements are holders of a residental permit or a Typ D visa issued by a Schengen Member State, holders of a diplomatic, service, special, or an official passport on an official mission or for other travel purposes without exercising a gainful occupation.
  • Processing time of a visa application
    A visa application must be submitted at least 15 days before the planned travel date and can be submitted 6 months before at the earliest. It is highly recommended to book an appointment at an early stage, especially during high season from February until June, when a long waiting time can occur.
    As a general rule, a decision is taken by the consular division within 15 days. This period may, in individual cases, be extended. There is no gua-rantee, that a visa will be issued within a two week's time.
